On April 26, 2024, Friends of the Blindman sent a letter to The Honourable Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas. The letter details our concerns as residents and landowners in Ponoka County.
On May 23, 2024, we received a response from Minister Schulz.
In July we sent a follow-up letter with detailed concerns and recommendations.
Stay tuned as we hope to provide a template letter you can personalize for your Member of the Legislative Assembly.
Express Your Interest
Our goal is to build a formal watershed society. This will help us initiate community-based research and restoration projects; educate and inform the public on water issues; and advocate for healthier aquatic ecosystems in the Blindman River watershed. With your help, we can make that a reality.
Becoming a formal watershed society has many advantages:
- Legal Recognition – A formal society has a distinct legal identity separate from its members.
- Perpetual Existence – We know our members won’t always be able to give the time they’re dedicating now. A formal society can continue its mission through changes in members.
- Access to Funding – Formal societies are more likely to succeed in grant and funding opportunities.
- Governance and Stability – Long-term planning is supported by good governance, including regular meetings and reporting.
- Community Trust – By becoming a society, we will formalize our commitment to the Blindman River Watershed and its communities.
We will be having our first meeting this fall to initiate the process. If you are interested in being involved, please reach out.
